Voyagers World is simple, effective, and ad-free. A hospitality and travel network created by a small group of systems developers, designers, and volunteers.
Voyagers World does not sell ads. Nor do we sell data about you to third parties.
Virtually every social network, and some of the most prominent hospitality networks, are run by major investors and advertisers. Behind the scenes they employ armies of ad salesmen and data miners to record every move you make. Data about you is then sold out to advertisers and data brokers. It is disappointing to see beautiful and idealistic concepts become cold hard businesses that use you as the product.
Collecting and selling your personal data, reading your posts to friends, and mapping your social connections for profit, is both creepy and unethical. Under the guise of offering a “free” service, users pay a high price in intrusive advertising and lack of privacy.
Many social networks (like Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Google+, Instagram, etc.) started out ad-free and then switched gears. They modified their privacy policies, started selling information about their users to data brokers, and bombarded us with ads.
Some hospitality networks also committed similar changes of attitude when they were acquired by major investors. They may not be advertising yet, but it is clear that their entire strategy aims to increase the size of their networks (at all costs) and then find ways to profit from them so they can recover their investments.
Many users of those networks feel betrayed.
Our entire business plan is based around a no-ad and no data-mining policy.
